Not every SUV needs to be huge, expensive or electric. The Škoda Kamiq proves common sense still sells: almost 790,000 built since 2019 and the brand’s third best-seller in the first half of 2025. A thorough update has given the small crossover a tougher face, more tech and greener materials – without messing with the formula.

Design and cabin: a sterner look, greener materials

The Kamiq gains a larger, more upright grille, new split headlights with a slimmer upper element, and reshaped front and rear bumpers with prominent diffusers. For the first time, TOP LED Matrix headlights with distinctive hexagonal modules join the options list. Trims are now called Essence, Selection and Monte Carlo, with the sporty Monte Carlo adding black detailing.

Inside, every version gets an 8-inch digital driver display and an 8.25-inch infotainment screen as standard, with a larger digital cockpit and a navigation system with a bigger touchscreen on the options list. Škoda also leans on sustainability: natural plant fibres such as hemp and kenaf in the door trims and headliner, plus recycled fabrics for upholstery, carpets and mats.

Engines: petrol only, but plenty of choice

The line-up is all TSI petrol on the MQB-A0 platform. The entry 1.0 TSI makes 95 hp and 175 Nm with a five-speed manual. The stronger 1.0 TSI with 115 hp and 200 Nm comes with a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG. Top of the range is the four-cylinder 1.5 TSI with 150 hp and 250 Nm, again with manual or DSG, which shuts down two cylinders under light load (ACT). Official combined consumption in Germany is 5.3-5.9 l/100 km.

The lack of a hybrid or electric option is the obvious weak spot on paper – rivals such as the Toyota Yaris Cross and Renault Captur offer full hybrids. On the other hand, a light and simple petrol engine keeps both price and weight in check.

Practicality and safety

At 4,241 mm long on a 2,651 mm wheelbase, the Kamiq is compact outside but generous inside: the boot holds 400 litres, rising to 1,395 litres with the seats folded. Standard kit includes Front Assist with pedestrian monitoring, Lane Assist, traffic sign recognition and rear parking sensors, while Travel Assist, Side Assist, a reversing camera and Park Assist are available as options.

Price and who it’s for

In Germany, the Kamiq starts at €25,980. That makes it one of the most rational buys in the B-SUV class for families who want a raised driving position, a practical cabin and proven, mainstream hardware. If you want the lowest possible fuel use or an electric drivetrain, look elsewhere. If you want a hassle-free, roomy everyday companion, the Kamiq is hard to ignore.
