Câmara takes F2 lead in Baku but insists the job is not done

The Invicta driver led the championship for the first time this season after Baku and is seven points clear of Nikola Tsolov with two rounds left.

Rafael Camara

Rafael Câmara left Baku on top of the Formula 2 standings for the first time in 2026, but the Invicta Racing driver was quick to stress that a seven-point cushion over Nikola Tsolov guarantees nothing with two rounds still to run.

From fourth to first

The Brazilian took fourth in Feature Race 1 after edging Noel León in a drag race to the flag. That was enough to move him past Tsolov at the top of the table by a single point.

In Feature Race 2 Câmara crossed the line behind Alexander Dunne, but a five-second penalty for the Irishman handed the win to the Invicta driver. With Tsolov second, the lead grew to seven points.

“It’s my first time leading this championship this whole season,” Câmara told the official F2 website, while adding that the fight is still far from over and the team will keep pushing.

Now the hunted

Câmara admitted he had thought the team made a mistake at one point, but said strong pace made up for it. He compared his position to last year, when he was also the driver everyone else was chasing.

The top three are covered by 18 points, and the next stop is Lusail.

  • 1. Rafael Câmara (Invicta) – 207 pts
  • 2. Nikola Tsolov (Campos) – 200 pts
  • 3. Alexander Dunne (Rodin) – 189 pts
