Nikola Tsolov is refusing to give up on the Formula 2 title. Having lost the championship lead in Baku, the Campos Racing driver heads towards the final two rounds confident he can turn his season around again.
No time to relax
Speaking to the official Formula 2 website, Tsolov acknowledged that mistakes in recent race weekends had cost him his advantage. Yet six victories, including three in succession, remain evidence of what he and Campos can achieve.
“But we’ve done it before, I’m sure we can do it again now,” he said. The Bulgarian is concentrating on his own performance and applying the lessons learned from difficult moments.
The answer has to come on track
His recovery to the podium in Baku’s second Feature Race provides reason for optimism. After struggling earlier in the weekend, Tsolov and his team found the speed they needed to stay in contention.
The remaining rounds at Lusail and Yas Marina will demand fewer mistakes and the best possible use of every opportunity. Tsolov regards the setbacks as part of his development and sees staying calm as a key ingredient in a strong finish.
Meanwhile, the F1 question remains open
As Tsolov pursues the F2 crown, his future continues to be linked with Racing Bulls. In an article published on 27 October, GPblog quoted Liam Lawson admitting he did not know when a decision on next season would be announced, following his ninth-place finish in Austin. The New Zealander explained that he was focusing on racing rather than the uncertainty surrounding his contract.
Marko backs Tsolov’s candidacy
Helmut Marko has publicly backed Tsolov, pointing to Red Bull’s tradition of developing young talent. His support, however, does not constitute a team decision on its driver line-up.
For Tsolov, that leaves two major targets at the end of the year: finishing his Formula 2 campaign as strongly as possible and strengthening the case for those who see his future in Formula 1.
