Nikola Tsolov Makes His Historic First F1 Car Test at Imola
The 19-year-old Formula 2 championship leader covered 690km in a Racing Bulls car at Imola as part of the Testing of Previous Cars programme, drawing praise from team boss Alan Permane.

19-year-old Nikola Tsolov, currently leading the Formula 2 championship, took his first laps in a Formula 1 car. The Red Bull junior covered 690 kilometres in a Racing Bulls car at Imola, as part of the “Testing of Previous Cars” programme.
The Bulgarian shared his excitement about the day, while Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane noted that the young driver “adapted quickly to the car and showed the composure you want to see” behind the wheel.
The test comes at a time when Tsolov leads the Formula 2 standings with a 20-point cushion over his closest challenger, with the title fight continuing at Monza next weekend. His strong results are already fuelling speculation about a possible seat at Racing Bulls in 2027, although the team’s management stresses that such a decision will be made later in the season.
