Audi Is Building Itself a New F1 Campus in Switzerland — Less Than a Kilometre From the Old One

While most Formula 1 teams are fighting to squeeze a bit more out of the facilities they already have, Audi has decided to simply build a new neighbourhood for itself. The German manufacturer is putting up an entirely new F1 campus at its Swiss headquarters in Hinwil — less than a kilometre from its current site — with construction starting in summer 2026 and completion targeted for 2030.
The existing base keeps humming along while the new one rises next door: power unit development stays put in Neuburg, Germany, and the technical centre in Bicester, England, isn’t going anywhere either. The current Hinwil facility will eventually become a manufacturing and wind-tunnel centre — recycling, German-efficiency style.
CEO and team principal Mattia Binotto called the chance to design a facility from scratch exceptionally rare in modern Formula 1. “Building a successful Formula 1 team is ultimately about people… the campus will help us create exactly that environment,” he said, adding: “Opportunities like this are rare in modern Formula 1… We are creating a home designed around our people, our culture and our ambitions.”
Audi’s presence in Hinwil goes back to 1970, with its Formula 1 involvement starting in 1993 — so the new campus is less a fresh start than another chapter in a long story.
