Williams has announced a new multi-year contract with Carlos Sainz, keeping the Spaniard at the Grove-based team beyond the end of the 2026 season. The news came just a day after his teammate Alex Albon extended his own deal through 2027, giving the team one of the most stable and well-balanced lineups on the grid.

The signing comes at a time when Williams’ form is far from spectacular – the team sits ninth in the constructors’ standings with just 11 points after the first half of the season. Sainz himself has six of those, earned from three ninth-place finishes in China, Miami and Canada. Even so, the team’s management, led by James Vowles, clearly believes the project can keep climbing towards 2027, when the new technical regulations come into force.

Sainz’s decision came just 24 hours before Max Verstappen announced his own extension with Red Bull through 2030 – a move likely to freeze a large part of the driver market for the coming seasons, since most of the most sought-after seats are now taken.
