Lando Norris’ LN4 Fusion team has officially secured a place in Formula 2 from 2027. Championship organisers have confirmed the entrants for the next three-year cycle, with the McLaren driver’s project the only new name on the list.
The decision gives the green light to the next stage of Norris’ ambition to build a structure for developing young racing drivers. Following its announced plans to compete in the lower categories, LN4 Fusion now has a guaranteed presence on the final step before Formula 1.
Entry confirmed for 2027–2029
LN4 Fusion is one of eleven teams selected for the 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons. It will compete under an Italian licence, joining ten entrants that retain their places from the current grid.
This is the significant change since the project was first presented in September. At that stage, its intention to enter F2 depended on completing the official selection process. The application has now been approved, allowing preparations to continue with a guaranteed championship entry.
F2 CEO Bruno Michel welcomed the newcomer and expressed confidence that the experience within the organisation would make a valuable contribution to the championship.
LN4 Fusion takes AIX Racing’s place
The new team arrives after acquiring selected assets of AIX Racing, which does not appear among the entrants chosen for the next cycle. LN4 Fusion’s arrival will therefore not increase the number of teams or available driver seats.
Formula 2 retains its existing format of eleven teams, each running two cars. The total number of cars on the grid remains 22.
For Norris’ project, the acquired assets provide a foundation on which to build a competitive organisation. Approval secures participation, but performance will depend on engineering, preparation and decisions at the circuit.
René Rosin and Guillaume Capietto lead the operation
The sporting structure will draw on people with extensive experience in junior single-seaters. René Rosin will serve as Team Principal, while Guillaume Capietto will be Racing Director for the wider organisation. Both bring experience from their previous work at Prema.
Their task is to turn the stated ambitions into a functioning racing programme. When introducing the project, Norris explained that a driver’s development requires the right people, support and opportunities at the right time.
That idea also underpins the separate LN4 Legacy Programme, which aims to support talented young drivers who might otherwise face difficulties progressing through the sport.
The two F2 drivers have yet to be announced
With entry confirmed, the main unanswered question is the line-up for the debut season. The two drivers who will represent LN4 Fusion in Formula 2 in 2027 have not yet been announced.
Their selection will be an important part of the new team’s preparations and an early indication of its sporting direction. For now, the official news is the secured championship entry; linking specific drivers to the team would go beyond the confirmed information.
For Norris, this expands his role in the sport: alongside competing at the highest level, he is helping build an environment designed to prepare the next generation to reach it.
