‘Two Plus Two Equals Seven and a Half’: Brundle Debunks the Horner-to-Ferrari Rumour

Here’s how a Formula 1 rumour is born: Christian Horner praised Ferrari in a Times interview promoting his memoir “Drive,” calling the Maranello outfit “the biggest brand” and a “sleeping giant” in the sport. The result was an instant wave of speculation that the former Red Bull boss was about to replace Fred Vasseur at the helm.
Martin Brundle decided to kill the game of broken telephone the most direct way possible — he rang Horner himself. “I rang Christian to find out all about it, and he said, ‘I was just being polite and respectful about Ferrari in another interview I did, and it took on a whole…'” Brundle recounted. His verdict on the entire saga? “Two plus two equals seven and a half.” According to the former driver, Horner currently “isn’t interested in anything in particular.”
Ferrari didn’t wait to see how far the rumour would travel. The team called an unscheduled briefing in which communications chief Maria Conti insisted the team’s position was “clear” and confidence in Vasseur “full.” Vasseur himself, though, didn’t deny the obvious, admitting Horner “is looking for a job, that everybody knows, everywhere.”
