Sepang Schedule: Why F1 Practice Starts Before Dawn This Weekend

Formula 1 returns to Sepang for the first time since 2017 — a curious revival prompted not by nostalgia but by the war in Iran, which has ruled out holding the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sakhir. The result: the race keeps the “Bahrain” name while the entire event relocates to Malaysia.
The FIA has already declared a temperature risk for the circuit, pushing practice sessions into the early hours when the heat is more bearable. First practice is Friday, October 2 at 6:30am local time (22:30 GMT Thursday), with second practice at 10:00am local (02:00 GMT). Saturday follows the same pattern: third practice at 6:30am local, qualifying at 10:00am local.
The race itself, 56 laps, gets underway on Sunday, October 4 at 3:00pm local time (07:00 GMT) — at least fans won’t need to set an alarm for that one.
