Dino Beganovic turned Friday in Baku into one of his best days in Formula 2 – despite not feeling well. The DAMS Lucas Oil driver won the Sprint Race and then returned to the podium with third place in Feature Race 1.

Round 12 of the 2026 season in Baku came with an unusual format – a Sprint Race plus two Feature Races – making it a particularly valuable weekend in the points battle.

Eighth to third

Starting the Feature Race from eighth, Beganovic worked his way forward to finish behind only the two Rodin Motorsport cars. It was not a clean run: a clash with León left him with rear wing damage, but he still managed to keep his rival behind.

The Ferrari Driver Academy member acknowledged that the timing of the Safety Car fell perfectly for him and made his afternoon far easier, while also pointing to his strong restarts as a key factor.

Unwell but unstoppable

Beganovic revealed he had not been feeling well since the morning, but said the effort paid off. “Very satisfied, it was a great day,” he told the official F2 website, calling it a big haul of points.

Saturday proved tougher. After qualifying outside the top 10, he started Feature Race 2 from 12th and finished seventh, enough to climb to fifth in the standings.

Key facts

  • Sprint Race: winner
  • Feature Race 1: P3 (from P8)
  • Beaten only by the two Rodin Motorsport cars
  • Feature Race 2: started P12, finished P7
