Charles Leclerc does not expect to miss a Formula 1 race because of the upcoming birth of his first child. Speaking in Austin, the Ferrari driver explained how he intends to balance the end of the season with his wish to be alongside his wife Alexandra.
“No, I don’t think I’ll miss a race,” the Monegasque told the media. However, he stressed that he would do everything possible to spend more time at home between rounds. That could mean changing his usual travel schedule and arriving later at some race weekends.
Leclerc expects to be on the grid on Sundays. His comments outline his current plans, without setting out a specific scenario should the birth coincide with race day.
Six grands prix remain, split into two runs of three consecutive race weekends. Austin is followed by Mexico and Brazil, while the final sequence comprises Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. The demanding calendar leaves limited opportunities to return home, making travel arrangements particularly important for the expectant father.
On track, Leclerc’s ambition remains to help Ferrari return to winning ways. He said that individual race victories would bring him greater satisfaction than second place in the constructors’ championship and would provide a positive sign heading into next season.
For now, impending fatherhood is changing his plans between races rather than his intention to compete in them. Leclerc is looking for a way to stay close to his family while fulfilling his racing commitments to Ferrari.
